Not Exactly a Hiatus…

…but pretty darn close. First week of August was holy hell at work. Next month is going to be worse. And the situation at home is… well, it’s depressing. Not looking forward to the next few weeks. I’m expecting it to be the hardest time ever.

Not watched much animé. Finally finished Bakumatsu; was disappointed by it’s chaotic and disjointed ending episodes. Sunrise strikes again. They’re very good at building up to a grand climax — they just seem to suck at pulling it off. Watched two episodes of SZS, looks like it might be good. As of the last time I checked, the two summer episodes of Code Geass hadn’t been fansubbed, and I have yet to see any of ZnT2 appear either. From what I’ve read, I’m not missing anything.

Had to buy a (used) laptop to replace my dead one, there’s $500 down the tubes. Damn thing was a toy for over a year, but now I need it, and it’s dead, of course. So no animé orders for a while.

Well, back to the WOW grind. It stops my mind from working, and is cheaper than drugs or booze.

According to Baka-Updates, no less than six groups have released subs for ZnT2–they don’t get posted on AnimeSuki due to Media Factory (one of the Japanese production companies) disapproving of fansubs to the point that they contacted AS a couple of years back and asked them to stop listing fansubs of their works.

Code Geass has been licensed, so you’ll only find fansubs listed at Tokyo Toshokan and Baka Updates. There’s been three at last count — Your-Mom, with their ever crappy romanisation and terrible translations (but speed!), gg, who’s also subbed a whole load of the picture dramas last time I checked, and Shinsen, under the guise of Syndicate. There’s also another relatively new fansub group doing 24-25, but I have no personal knowledge of how good or bad they are.

Ah, thanks. I must have gotten ZnT elsewhere then. Now if I can just remember what that other list I used to check was…

Well duh, I can just go to Baka-Updates, can’t I? Silly.

Sorry Owen, missed your comment when I moderated last. Funny, I thought I’d heard about that licensing, but I guess I forgot. I found it at Baka-Update, and it should have finished downloading last night. I expect that the length of this series will require me to wait on the thinpack, due to cost.

It’s a pity the show got so incoherent. For a while it was looking pretty good in a slightly-over-the-top way. It was dreck, but good dreck. Then it turned into total dreck. By now, I expect we’ll see undead-cyborg-Euphie in the 2nd season….

    Well, we got undead-cyborg Orange-kun…

Did anyone else think the military situation went to hell for the rebels kinda quick, after Zero bailed?

  6. Owen S says:

Too quick. Just goes to show how much they relied on Zero’s strategy and macro-/micro-managing in order to get things done. Orange-kun as a cyborg was pretty awesome though, similarities to Scryed’s Kazuma notwithstanding. But then again if KyoAni can turn Lucky Star into a walking advertisement for Haruhi, this would be rather tame in comparison…
