Words To Live By

Spotted in the comments over at Jason’s place:

If you’re going to try to be dramatic, be dramatic. If you’re going to try to be a gag series, be a gag series. Trying to combine the two makes baby Jebus cry. And can result in cases of Mai Otome.)

Question: Does it also result in cases of Grenadier?

Edit: It definitely resulted in cases of Negima?!

What about Full Metal Panic (which I liked). Nothing wrong with mixing it up.

  2. If it results in cases of whiskey, sign me up!

Sorry Arson55, for some reason your comment didn’t show in my mod queue for several days. Some general weirdness going on; Brickmuppet just contacted me with another problem…

I liked the show also… and it was one of the better attempts to mix genres. Unfortunately, as I pointed out before, the villains tend to operate under the gag/comedy ruleset in too many ways. That works in Fumoffu, where the entire premise and the villains are supposed to be comedic. It worked poorly in Second Raid, where the story is serious, and the villain not.
