Loli-Pervs Ahoy

So I decided to download the first couple of episodes of MG Lyrical Nanoha, just to see what all the hullaballoo was about, and if I should consider ordering it.

First thought: “Perfect family. Meh, well I’ve seen worse, but it does kind of remove one source of tension.”

Second thought: “Urk! Third-grade panties? Maybe they weren’t kidding about it being ecchi…wait, wasn’t the transformation deck supposed to be really ecch– ”

Third thought: “……..” “YIKES!!!!!!! Holy loli-on-a-stick, Batman! What the hell were those perverts thinking when they drew this???”

Jeez, I feel like I should scrub my hard drive before the feds come smash my door down…

  1. It was sufficiently egregious that I felt I needed to mention it in my review. But I don’t consider it sufficiently bad to make the series unrecommendable.

What Steven said. It undeniably has a lolicon element to it, and it’s a severe flaw in the show. It’s still an outstanding show overall. FWIW, the transformation sequence is as bad as it gets, and makes up probably 90% of the total lolicon in the series.

The first time I tried to watch it, I quit after episode 2 because of the lolicon. Various people kept raving about it so much that I eventually gave it another chance, and it wound up being one of my very favorites. Great action, and I love the story of —

    (general)
a certain character choosing her own purpose in life after having her former purpose taken away from her.
“lolicon element” is one way to put it, sure. It’s quite disturbing, and totally disqualifies Nanoha for new fans who haven’t had some of their sensitivity to such things dulled by other series. I just hope Mom never sees it, is all I’m sayin’…

Hang in there. The first episodes are pretty standard fare with extra lolicon; after that it’s too busy kicking ass, more or less.

Well, I don’t want to pirate as much of the series as it would take to find out, and after looking at my finances, it’s going to be some time before the next animé order, so even if I were inclined to take the chance based on everyone’s recommendations (not sure I am), it wouldn’t happen for a few months.

  5. Could be worse. Could be “Kodomo no Jikan”. (Ick!)
