Over a year ago, I wrote:
Does anyone make shows about folks who can focus on saving humanity, or are we doomed to a diet of crappy sci-fi soap operas? If WWII had been like this, Roosevelt would have looked like Professor X and have been crippled years ago by his quasi-enemy, Super Seiyjin Stalin; Hitler would have been the lunatic madman out to conquer/end/dominate/destroy the world, Mussolini would have been the jilted bishie lover of both Roosevelt and Stalin, Churchill would have been an angsty teenager, and Hirohito would have been a cute female high-schooler in a sailor outfit trying to end world militarism in time for this semester’s finals.
Crap, I think I just wrote the plot of at least one of next season’s new shows.
So I followed Steven’s link to The Nullset’s preview of the upcoming season:
Hetalia Axis Powers is a gag story where the major countries of the world are made into people that display the stereotypical view of the country. So, for instance, Italy is shown liking pasta and women and Japan is shown as an otaku. It’s supposed to retell history between WW1 and WW2 among other things.
It took longer than I expected….
Update: ” Rie Kugimiya as Liechtenstein, Romi Paku as Switzerland…”
Too. Damn. Funny… Liechtenstein???? Rie’s not being cast to type here, is she? Poland, I could see. Yugoslavia, maybe. But Liechtenstein? I mean, there’s not much tsundere to tell there — “Wham, bamn, thank you ma’am,” maybe, as fast as the Axis would have gone through!
Just the casting is enough to make me want to watch this horror, in a Dokuro-chan kind of way. And we know how that worked out.
That one sounds like it really could be the pits, especially if they sanitize history.
