Things I Learned From the First Episode of RahXephon:

Never, ever take the subway anywhere. If you don’t run into a great big pile of rocks, you might just end up in a strange alien temple.

It just gets weirder from there.

    Great show, though.

  2. Oh! So THAT’s what the “Rahx” part of the title means!

No, I’m convinced it has to do with Quon, the autistic red-headed chick that wanders around making strange elliptical statements that have something to do with the protagonist, and worships the Egyptian god of cheerleaders. At least, I assume she does, what with her often saying “Ra-ra?” This may variously mean, “Hello,” “What are you doing?” “How are you today,” or “I really dig your cologne.” Maybe.

I’m watching it slowly, about a DVD per day, and I’ve reached the conclusion that studio Bones is substituting obscurity for depth. I’ll give them credit where it’s due; they could be playing Ayato as a total Shinji (with far better excuse than an asshole/insane dad), but he’s relatively upbeat. He puts his pain and loneliness aside and fights for his adopted “family.” But there’s obviously wheels within wheels, and a lot we haven’t been told — assuming it’s not all just random crap to confuse us. I’m not entirely sure if the good guys have been infiltrated by the bad guys, or vice-versa.

By the way, what the hell is a “tactical fusion weapon?” Those things make too big of a bang to be tactical.

I just don’t dig the intelligence chick; she’s supposed to be ten years older, but she’s turned into an absolute schoolgirl where Ayato is concerned. Speculation (spoiler):
It’s become obvious that Ayato predates Tokyo Jupiter’s establishment; I’m wondering if she knows him from childhood. However, this sort-of messes with my other theory, that Ayato and Quon are half-Mu.
Don’t even get me started on that Federation observer. I’m waiting for something loud and very painful to happen to him. And what’s with the gay guy in the rose-colored glasses? (Correction: Foundation observer, who IS the guy with the glasses. For some reason I was thinking he was two different people.)

Foundation? Terra? Federation? Too many players, I need a scorecard.
