Two more to go

So, I read on ANN that Crunchyroll was premiering three new series today. I have to say, for $10 a month, it’s a helluva deal. Of course, it hasn’t always got the best selection, but there’s plenty of it. Given that I’m probably paying less than a half-buck per episode watched, and I have too much free time, it’s pretty easy to kill time watching even anime that I am not that crazy about.

Which, in a nutshell, is how I came to watch Dragon Crisis and Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? today. I had some interest in Zombie to start the season, but about Dragon Crisis, the best I could muster to say about it was “generic, no interest.” Well, that was before I realized it was set in modern-day Japan. I was thinking it was in a fantasy world. Hey, +3 points for that! So I watched it and quickly found it that it was in a fantasy world; it just looks like modern-day Japan. There’s a Society, and it recognizes groups that look for “Lost Precious'” which are magical artifacts. Everyone wants to score the big one and find an ‘S’ class. Then it gets even MORE generic and paint-by-the-numbers. Warning, massive spoilers, especially for Zombie below the fold.

Who needs a brain to watch anime anyway? (Rio review)

Ok, I was really bored, since we’re between seasons, and all that. But still, I can’t do it. I just can’t finish watching the first episode of Rio – Rainbow Gate. It’s not only mindbogglingly stupid, it takes itself seriously. Oh, and I’m not sure the terms of that card game were quite legal. Let’s see, if Rio wins, the bad guy has to say why they want to steal the little girl’s teddy bear and then leave the island. If she loses, the bad guys get the bear (or the girl, it’s not really clear), and Rio has to strip naked. Um, yeah, that’s real cool there.

Rio’s boss, the casino owner, not only ordered her into the game, he ordered up cameras to record her loss so he can use the footage for his next commercial. By the way, did anyone bother mentioning it to the little girl’s rich grandfather? You know, the grandfather that the casino owner promised to take good care of while ojii-sama contributed to his casino’s bottom line? What the hell does that old fart care anyway, he let a ten-year old girl (if that) wander all around town unescorted while he gambled. Not gonna win Grandpappy of the Year Award like that.

And hey, let’s not discuss the insanely skimpy outfits the owner of the casino orders Rio to wear, and all the T & A shots we’re getting here. (Yeah, I know, it’s a casino). I’m sure it’s a total coincidence that he’s named “Howard.” He’d better be paying her a mint, and I don’t mean the little girl (who is, un-charmingly enough, named Mint. Ha ha. Get it? Mint.)

Not past the expiration date

In Kamen no Maid Guy there’s a joke late in the series about a pair of twins who are different ages. Well, it was funny at the time, but here’s how you do it.

Yosuga no Sora, the ending

Well, YnS finally has run its last, and we definitely got the trainwreck, nobody-lives-happily-ever-afterward ending. It’s not “Nice Boat” but it’s sure as hell not rainbows and unicorns, either. However, there are some serious disputes on various blogs over exactly what the ending meant, and I’m going to opine on that, so what’s below the fold is massive spoilers. I can’t put them behind tags, because they compromise the whole article. I can burn a little space with a picture, but if you’re on RSS and haven’t seen it yet, bail now, or you’ll see the fate of the Kasugano siblings.

Winter, 2011

So most of the previews are out, except for the one I look forward to the most (where does Arodouc find all those gifs?) and Sea Slugs. (Update: he posted it the next day.) But it’s enough to work with, so here goes. Bear in mind, this is not a list of previews. Go see my primary sources THAT and Random Curiosity if you’re looking for PV’s or detailed information on which studio, staff, and seiyuus are doing what. This is nothing but me talking about what I plan to watch, and maybe adding in a bit of extraneous input.

So, without further ado…
