Dear Mojang:

If you want me to consider buying Minecraft, put the freaking price on your website. Don’t hide it; don’t force me to register just to learn whether your “charmingly blocky” game is worth throwing money at. Because if you have to hide the price, I assume it’s not.

Get Well Cards for SDB

Bob at RACS has volunteered to forward get well cards & the like to Steven Den Beste. Address and stuff at the linky. Or below the fold

Update: Bob asks that we not spread this outside the anime community, as SDB has his detractors (Metafilter, anyone?), and the internet is full of crabby people.

Dog Days Gets 3rd Season, and Other News

Yay! Just spotted on Crunchyroll:

As tweeted by Dog Days manga illustrator Fujima Takuya during FlonyaFestival 2012, a Dog Days event held last night in Tokyo, it was announced that the anime Dog Days will be getting a 3rd anime season in the future. The format and timing of the 3rd season were not revealed with the announcement, just that production of the new season had been green-lit. The second season of Dog Days, Dog Days`, finished airing last September.

Cool, so I wonder if this one will have a real plot to it? Still, that’s entirely too many Dog Days.

In other news, Steins;Gate has a trailer for the movie:

There’s a new Rozen Maiden series on the way.

Also, there’s a new OAD of Ah My Goddess coming. Unfortunately, it’s directed by the same person that did the last two.

The official Twitter account for the Aa Megami-sama (Ah! My Goddess/Oh My Goddess!) original anime DVDs (OADs) announced that production on a new anime DVD has been green-lit. The DVD will be bundled with the limited edition of Kousuke Fujishima’s 46th manga volume early next summer.

Hiroaki Gohda is returning from the previous two original anime DVDs to direct the new anime. The cast is also returning, led by Kikuko Inoue as Belldandy.

So Am I Bad Luck?

It might be a bad idea to be my BFF (Blog Friends Forever). Ok, I’m not really that close to Steven, but damn, from hiccups to a stroke? Not good, as I can attest. On the bright side, it sounds like he’s not much worse than I was.

UPDATE: So much for wishful thinking. His left hand is useless; he’ll be starting rehab next week.

iPhone has a Flaw

So I’m taking pictures and movies with my iPhone on a trip this last weekend, and I don’t do that much. As it happens, I (re)discover one really major flaw with its camera, either still or video.

It lacks a sign saying, “This side up.” Or “Top.” Or anything resembling that. Of course, the iPhone display doesn’t care about those things; it happily flips the picture to be correct no matter what way you turn the phone. What it doesn’t do is flip the recording. Why bother? After all, if I play it back, iPhone flips it right side up, right? But what if I’m downloading the video? It remains un-flipped.

Seeing as I don’t have any desire to hang upside down to watch them on my monitor, does anyone know a way to flip/rotate the video and re-record it? Preferably a free program, or at least low cost?

Note: you have to register to comment and first comment is held for approval. This has SO kept the spam under control, so sorry if that bugs ya.

Update: Well, isn’t that a kick. It works fine…. if you’re viewing it in Quicktime. Not so much in a MS-based viewer. Funny, that….

Sword Art Online, Reflections from ep. 17

I started to type this as a brief comment over at Brickmuppet’s place, but there’s a minor glitch in which it thinks I’m banned. It’s happened before; not worth bothering Pixy about. And then I got wordy…. Suffice to say, if you’ve wondered about this show, the Muppet’s place should be checked out, although he’s two episodes behind. I just watched episode 17.

In case you haven’t been watching it, I’m going to put some parts behind spoiler tags, and others not, as I’d like to pique your interest in watching it if you haven’t. “It’s just another .hack clone!” No. Nothing really matters in .hack; it’s just people playing a game. Hell, even the old D&D Saturday morning cartoon had the kids sucked into an alternate reality. The actions in the virtual world of SAO very quickly start to have real-world consequences, and people die as a result. But where there’s people and hope, there’s also love. That’s what eventually happens, much to the surprise of the principals involved. There’s eventual struggle, and triumph … and then there’s the tragedy. We have yet to see whether there will be a greater triumph, but the deck is very, very stacked against our heroes.

Busou Shinki

Angelic Layer meets moé. Even the battle animation is just copy/pasted from Infinite Stratos. There’s nothing I see worth watching, unless you like seeing cute dolls doing cute things. That is all I have to say about it.

I’ve got some thoughts running around in my head about the end of the summer season, especially about Campione, SAO, and the others I watched, but I have no idea if I’ll have time to get the electrons in order before I head out with Master Plan to go see Dr. Heinous late in the week.
