This note will stay up for the coming week. It’s just a quick heads up, in case you’re new here or haven’t been around in a while, and wonder what’s up with the new decor.

I miss August.
She WAS one of the few good spots of Coyote Ugly, or whatever that show was called… but I think I like the header better now.
LOL!!! I just noticed the new site name!!!
Yeah, you cant’ see it though. You need to change the text to white, or some light color.
I tried to. Grump. The problem with .css is that you can’t trace the “program path” that the browser follows when interpreting it. If you didn’t write the style sheet the only thing to do is change something and see if it works. There’s so many places h1 is referenced in it, I don’t know which one is correct… and that is assuming the right syntax was used by either the original author or me… If I could figure it out, I’d have changed the header color a LONG time ago. I’ve noticed that how hard it is to see actually varies from browser to browser. IE doesn’t treat h1 as pure black.
Oh, that reminds me: did I mention that Firefox and IE don’t interpret .css the same way?
Well, I just poked around with the Web Developer Extension for Firefox on your site and I see changing the color value of the following segment in style.css seems to work:
h1, h1 a, h1 a:hover, h1 a:visited, .description {
text-decoration: none;
color: #333;
}
Then again, this is in Firefox 2, so it might be different for IE (Though I’m doubting it).
That is the very one I tried to change several times, and nothing happend. Then I tried others. In fact, I don’t think I left it at that value… which means I may have been mucking about in the wrong file.
No, I couldn’t be… the font changed with I messed with it. Still, thanks for the link! I’ll play around a bit, and also try the extention and see if it helps.
Edit: sonuvagun, that was it. I must have botched the syntax every time I altered it….
See? Lesson #1 moral: you should always listen to me!
Did you say something?
Yeah, thanks for pointing out exactly what he needed to do for fixing it! 😉
Though, realistically, Ubu already knew what to do. I have a feeling it’s the browser caching the CSS and not letting go (That seems to happen sometimes, despite repeated attempts to do the Shift-F5 refresh everything attempt).
What you should question is why is a Saints fan (or who should be a Saints fan, since my state taxes are spent to keep the Saints in New Orleans *grumble*) helping you with defacing your site in this matter? 😉
Could we get some of that tax money diverted to sending the rest of the New Orleans natives back there?
(Explanation for those confused by all this: I’m one of the many ex-Louisiana Houstonians, except I got here under my own power, didn’t need a hurricane or a handout, and it was 25 years ago–so I identify more as a Texan than Louisianian these days. Especially considering the relative competence of the governments involved. For now anyway — Houston’s trying to race N.O. for the bottom of the barrel, but that’s some serious competition!)
Oh, and thanks Nick! 🙂 (Better late than never?)
