So I got an itch to play Masters of Magic yesterday. Unfortunately, it’s not working. A few months ago, with Windows 8 on the way, I finally broke down and installed Win 7. Of the programs I’ve installed, most have been all right, but that one hasn’t been. I re-downloaded it, but the graphics won’t cooperate no matter what settings I change in DOSbox or the shortcut. I’ve tried emulating XP, on which it ran like a charm before, but no joy.
The…
graphics…
are…
just..
excruciatingly…

unplayably…

Sigh.
It works fine for me. I spend an embarassingly large amount of time playing it.
In dosboxMOM.conf, I have “frameskip=3”, which helps a lot.
I thought I had changed it already, but apparently the changes saved with a .txt extension since I was using notepad. I made a few more changes and got an acceptable result… until a weird corruption hit and my world turned into an unholy amalgamation of my current game and a previously saved version that I’d already deleted and then reinstalled over.
Back to the drawing board. Guess I’m going to have to delete it all, reinstall, and start over….
Ok, that seems to be working now.
