I Was Just Kidding, Dammit!

Over a year ago, I wrote:

Does anyone make shows about folks who can focus on saving humanity, or are we doomed to a diet of crappy sci-fi soap operas? If WWII had been like this, Roosevelt would have looked like Professor X and have been crippled years ago by his quasi-enemy, Super Seiyjin Stalin; Hitler would have been the lunatic madman out to conquer/end/dominate/destroy the world, Mussolini would have been the jilted bishie lover of both Roosevelt and Stalin, Churchill would have been an angsty teenager, and Hirohito would have been a cute female high-schooler in a sailor outfit trying to end world militarism in time for this semester’s finals.

Crap, I think I just wrote the plot of at least one of next season’s new shows.

So I followed Steven’s link to The Nullset’s preview of the upcoming season:

Hetalia Axis Powers is a gag story where the major countries of the world are made into people that display the stereotypical view of the country. So, for instance, Italy is shown liking pasta and women and Japan is shown as an otaku. It’s supposed to retell history between WW1 and WW2 among other things.

It took longer than I expected….

Update: ” Rie Kugimiya as Liechtenstein, Romi Paku as Switzerland…”

Too. Damn. Funny… Liechtenstein???? Rie’s not being cast to type here, is she? Poland, I could see. Yugoslavia, maybe. But Liechtenstein? I mean, there’s not much tsundere to tell there — “Wham, bamn, thank you ma’am,” maybe, as fast as the Axis would have gone through!

Just the casting is enough to make me want to watch this horror, in a Dokuro-chan kind of way. And we know how that worked out.

Update, Upgrade, Up Yours Hackers

Well, after all the fun and games over at Houblog, updating and fixing Bridgebunnies was a snap. (Kudos to the staff at Hosting Matters for all their patience and help!) I finally found the compromised files and killed them. Unfortunately, to be sure I had a clean sweep, I was forced to destroy all my theme customizations. (Backups? What backups? Shirley, you jest!)

Oops, need to go change passwords here too. Be right back!

Ok, that’s done.

I lament for the passing of August. No more gothloli grenades, but I’d been thinking I needed to update the header. Unfortunately, I’m busy with politics right now. Maybe I’ll just throw someone else’s theme up there….

Odd…

Is anyone else seeing this on a clear white background with no header or background image?

This Blog is on Hiatus

Good news is, my order got in and I’m watching Saber Marionette J. Bad news is, I just don’t have time for blogging about animé any more. I am increasingly being distracted by the real world, and just can’t deal with trying to blog, locate and fix the security hole, upgrade the software and so on.

Until further notice, I am suspending animé blogging. Houblog may also have to go on hiatus, but we’ll see. I’ll still be around, making appearances over at Steven’s place and maybe Brickmuppet’s or Fledge’s (I don’t trust those pesky ducks enough to risk appearances at Wonder’s place any more.)

Star Trek X

Spoilers here. I am also disappointed by the modern decor; I was hoping they’d go retro.

Hat tip to Fledge.

Update: ARRRRRRRRGH!! IS NOTHING SACRED TO THESE BASTARDS?????

“This is a franchise that offers hope for unity — and so does Barack Obama,’’ says Quinto, who has stumped for the Democratic presidential nominee. ‘’When this movie comes out, and Obama is president, hopefully there will be some parallels.’’ (EW)

Leonard Nimoy believes the film should have been released prior to the November U.S. election – to give movie fans a boost amid gloomy economic and environmental crises. He says, “My only regret is that the movie can’t come out sooner. I think the world could use it. Don’t you?” (EW)

Bad enough that the guy running the show is a Star Wars fan, not Star Trek, and wants to give it the feel of the former….

God, there’s enough Trek fans to make it a success, no matter how bad it is…

Update: Ok, the bit with the links appearing and suppressing the display of my article has happened a second time, and I didn’t touch this thing. That’s definitely a hack, and from the insane number of links, I suspect it’s automated. I’m going to run around and try to lock things down, then upgrade to a newer version of WordPress. Dammit, I had other plans for today

Update: happened again. Grrrr.

Update 11/4: And AGAIN. I don’t have time to deal with this shit. I keep erasing the ID, and it keeps getting reinserted. After tomorrow night I may have time to deal with it

Update 11/5: No time, and it seems to be happening during the middle of the day, about the same time. Ok, I’m going to do a couple of things here…

Macademi Wasshoi ep.2

Ok, I’m convinced. This show wins. I was rolling from start to finish. From the first “AYIEEEEE! My eyes! I can’t believe they did that!” to the last “Oh, hell yeah, Mrrrrrow!” I was grinning like and idiot and suppressing guffaws (because it was late and everyone was in bed). How crazy was it? Suzaho starts in Midnight Blue Vampire form and all hell breaks loose. Fortunately, dwarves can do speedy repairs to apartments, and spells can erase the memories of all witnesses.

We’ve got another crazy sensei. This one builds devices to turn people into their “natural” animal-eared forms (seems related to personality?). It’s moé! Moé! Mo’ moé! Oh, and the catgirl* meido is definitely playing a major part. She throws down against one of the goddesses in this one. Seems the Gods and Demons are taking an interest in Tannarotte, because she is neither, but she could turn into either — and if she does, the unchanging balance between the two immortal realms would be altered — neither of them wants that. So a Goddess and Demoness sneak into the school and try to find Tannarote. Needing cover, they amp up the already out-of-control animalizer and send it on a rampage.

*The fansubbers are still translating like she might be dog-related; the goddess briefly mistakes her for a werewolf. That might be the changes wrought by the “animalizer.” Takuto is still being dragged around, but he does assert himself from time to time. He tries to take on the Demoness, but she slaps him down pretty quick.

It’s appearing that the Suzaho/Suzako dichotomy is a fansub error or they’re almost completely integrated.

If I have time, I’ll write something a bit more organized tomorrow.
