I really, really, really wish I’d read the system requirements for Sword of the Stars II: Lords of Winter, you know, before I spent $40 on it.
Required: Windows Vista 32 bit.
Yeah, yeah, don’t give me crap about XP being ten years old. I’ve bitched about this before, and I will again: Enforced upgrades.
If I want to be a Luddite, I will be. Pen and paper was good enough for my ancestors.
That might be the first time I’ve seen XP not supported. Even brand new games requiring more horsepower than my system has still support XP.
It is the first time I’ve seen it. And according to Dr. Heinous, I’m not missing anything — the game is so buggy as to be nearly unplayable. “There’s a good, maybe great, game in there somewhere. But it crashes every 30 turns or so. ”
Not a worthy successor to one of my favorite games.
Correction: First time I’ve seen it in game software. I saw it earlier this year in some training software, and it bit my employer on the arse. Or to be more precise, in the wallet.
