I Tried! I Really Did!

It’s not my fault Steven fell from grace, and worse, chose poorly!

I am a sinner. I have sold my honor for a handful of lead coins. I hang my head in shame.

I tried to warn everyone away from Girls’ High!

When people have used the word “raunchy” to describe this series, they knew whereof they spoke. I feel soiled.

Yes. Yes we did. This series is, I think, the only one I ever chose to delete outright from my hard drive. Even Dokuro-chan didn’t get that treatment. It’s not just that it’s raunchy, it’s pointlessly raunchy. Inflict episode 5 on yourself if you ever want to make Dokuro-chan look good….

That statement is enough to put Girls’ High on my blacklist…

    Dokuro-chan was just… bad…

He broke his no-fansub rule for GIRLS’ HIGH!?

Man, selling one’s honor for a handful of lead coins is a shrewd bargain by comparison.

Tell me about it. I’m still trying to figure out how I was stupid enough to watch FIVE episodes of it before quitting. The best thing about the series was the ED. “Oh thank GOD! It’s over!” Even the fantasy cosplay segments at the opening of each episode couldn’t save this dreck.

  4. Nick says:

    Actually, he said:

I watched about half of the first one.

He’s not as stupid as you think he was… 🙂

  5. Andrew F. says:

While shoveling snow, it occurred to me that GIRLS’ HIGH is like a bug zapper: it attracts clueless fanservice otaku with the promise of abundant panty shots, and then shocks them with the pubic hair scene and its ilk.

You might also compare it with Mizuho from Otoboku or Jun from Happiness!; in fact, if Media Blasters has any scruples whatsoever, they’ll put a big warning sticker on each DVD case that just says “IT’S A TRAP!”…

It’ll still sell like hotcakes to folks who figure it can’t be that bad.

I wonder if the manga is better.

OT: I kept on trying to comment on the post about Tokimeki Check-in, but didn’t have any luck. Do you have any idea what was wrong?

  7. Thinking back on it, I half wonder if maybe the actual point of the show was to make the fan service raunchy. The show is stupid, of course, but maybe it’s a deliberate satire, a sendup.

Which doesn’t redeem it, of course.

  8. Ubu Roi says:

Maybe, but I don’t think so; the writer is supposedly a woman who based it (very loosely) on her own high-school experiences. I really thought that we were going to see a healthy and fun rivalry between the two leaders of the trios, while the other four gradually bonded around making fun of their outrageous competitive streaks. Sadly, it didn’t work out that way.

  9. I don’t really have an interest in seeing it, but I bet a series like this propagates itself solely by the all the negative “worst thing ever!” reviews. Those sort of things almost always pique my curiosity, generally at some kind of psychic cost (viz, The Star Wars Holiday Special).

JB: I don’t know. For some reason, your post above only appeared in my moderation queue this morning. I have noticed folks complaining about Akismet being fubared for a couple of weeks now; I wonder if this is what they’re talking about. First I’ve noticed anything odd.

  11. JB says:

OT: Assuming you can read this, did you get my other post with the Tokimeki walkthrough? I tried sending it to houblog.com, but I got a failure to deliver message.

  12. Ubu Roi says:

Everything’s bouncing over at Houblog, and I don’t know what’s wrong. If I can’t fix it, I’ll have to turn in a support ticket. The same address here at bridgebunnies DOES work though. I think…. I keep saying I’m going to work on it and then I arrive home mentally drained and with much to do around the house.

I got bkw’s Excel spreadsheet, but nothing else. Sorry for all the problems.

    Edit: ARGH! ARGH! ARGH!

  13. JB says:

I’ll try posting it again. If that doesn’t work, is the address here ub# at br#dgebunnies dot com?

Ob Girl’s High: One of the commenters at Youtube said this, “She never fell like that in the manga… In fact, in the manga, she bumped into one of the girls from the club room. The creators of the anime like it a little more sexual I see. Kouda was a whole other chapter!”

The manga has been translated. According to the reviewers, it’s also raunchy: http://www.amazon.com/High-School-Girls/dp/1588992004/ref=pd_sim_b_5/104-6311324-9114301

ugh. As I said on the other post, it was an Akismet problem for the messages, and me being an idiot for the mail. 🙁
