It kind of became a guiding principle. I just read my brief mention of UFOPV (not a review as I stopped watching it) and saw that I noted at the time that Song of Wind and Trees did not offend my sensibilities me as much as Sanada and her catgirl gun. The fact that the catgirl gun is wielded by the protagonists was utterly appalling.
These bastards ruined catgirls for me for months.

I just read my brief mention of UFOPV (not a review as I stopped watching it) and saw that I noted at the time that Song of Wind and Trees did not offend my sensibilities me as much as Sanada and her catgirl gun.

I think it's possible to retcon it, though: [spoiler]It turns out that gay marriage is perfectly OK on Valhalla, even for members of the royal family, and there are indications that Hydra is in love with Akina, and is waiting for Akina to finally give up on Kazuto. It's even worse than you said. There are several times in both the first and second series where Akina releases the seal because they need Hydra's power, and afterwards Hydra seems to let Akina re-seal her, though she is quite capable of fleeing in her adult form. It's because she wants to stay with Akina, and the only way Akina will permit that is if Hydra's powers are sealed.[/spoiler] What makes the second series worth watching is Valkyrie Ghost, but she doesn't show up for a few episodes. If you want to get to the good part, watch ep 5, and then skip and watch eps 9-12. The rest of it is a waste of time. Ep 5 provides all the background you need on Valkyrie Ghost (and it's fun, too), and the only other things you need you saw in ep 1. (I won't say what they are.)
